Scotland is a small but diverse country – which is part of its appeal as a globally significant tourism destination - and Community Tourism enterprises are popping up all across the map from Unst on Shetland, to Newcastleton on the English border, and from West Haven on the east coast to virtually every island on the west coast, plus everywhere in between.

To help you appreciate all that is on offer and to inspire you to visit these amazing places where you can meet local people and give something back, we have grouped them under four distinct regions of Scotland - and six different types of tourism offer.

North & East

The Highlands, Grampian and Northern Isles host some of our oldest community led tourism enterprises linked to celebrating our culture and heritage and providing solutions for retaining much needed services for locals and visitors alike as well as some new award winning enterprises responding to a post covid world.

West

With a myriad of islands, remote peninsulas and rocky coastlines, the West Coast is a hive of community led tourism projects and initiatives with visitors as well as locals being proud beneficiaries. Islands typically foster an entrepreneurial mindset and innovative opportunities for visitors to readily give something back either in destination or once back at home.

Central

Spanning the central belt of Scotland and taking in our largest cities, industrial heartland and agricultural hinterland, this region has been witnessing community empowerment and development over recent decades with more and more recognising the merit of welcoming visitors and providing much needed services which enhance the visitor experience and derive important local benefits.

South

Arguably a less well known region but one which is now seriously punching above its weight, the South of Scotland is accessible to over 14 million people in the north of England and the central belt of Scotland and is peppered with innovative and some very ambitious community led tourism enterprises each seeking to retain valuable assets and stimulate the local economy.
